New Years Eve
I am having a few friends and their kids over for New Years Eve. I am not serving a meal because people won't be coming tell around 8:00 so that I can have the baby sleeping first. So I have snack food planned, which is great since everything is easy to put together and put on platters since I have to work that day.
Chips
2 different homemade dips
Celery w/peanut butter
4 kinds of cheese
2 kinds of summer sausage
lots of crackers
tortilla chips
homemade cheesy bean dip
little smokies in bbq sauce
pretzels (for the one kid who doesn't like chips)
Alcoholic punch
and told people to bring other drinks if they want it
and for the kids
Sparkling grape juice
Sprite
Root Beer
What is everyone else snacking on for New Years Eve?

I stopped at Hy-Vee today and spent $37.37. I needed a few things for the kids for the rest of the time off of school and several things for our small New Years Eve get together. Merry Christmas
I hope everyone is having a Merry Christmas.
We celebrated Christmas morning here opening presents and playing with all the new stuff and then headed to the kids' Grandparents house. The roads are terrible out and it took longer than usual but we got there. We had a very nice meal and opened presents again. We were there almost six hours and then we slowly made our way home.
Now we are home and the little one is in bed and I have hooked up our new Wii and the older two kids are loving it. And I must admit it is a lot of fun! I think this is a great winter time game. We only have the game that came with the Wii which includes bowling, tennis, baseball, boxing and golf, but that is keeping us plenty entertained right now.
We will have another Christmas gathering on January 2nd when my family will be coming here. I hope the weather is a lot better then.

Weather
I had a heck of a lot of scraping to do on my windows today before I left work. We had freezing rain for quite a while, then sleet, and then it turned to snow.
On the 6:00 news they said we had 4" of snow so far and it was still snowing then. It has stopped for now but this wintry mix of precipitation is forecasted to continue for the next 3 days.
Thank goodness I don't have far to travel on Christmas Day, but boy do I feel for all those people that will be traveling in this stuff, Yuck!!!

More Snow is on the Way
After watching the local news tonight and checking out the Weather Channel afterwards we are obviously in for some really crappy weather the rest of the week. We already have a lot of snow on the ground so we really don't need more but we are getting it regardless. They are talking snow everyday through Friday! And on Wednesday and Thursday there might be sleet at times. Luckily we only have about 30 miles to travel each way on Christmas Day so hopefully the roads will be ok. I really hope everyone can make it to their destination safely.

Christmas Baking is Done!
I baked another five applesauce cakes today. And I put together two jars of smores.
That concludes my baking for Christmas. Now all that is left is to label everything and make it pretty and put it all in baskets. I am almost ready for Christmas and I am so glad for that.

More Online Earnings Info Coming Soon
I receive a lot of emails about online earnings. People want to know which sites I belong to, which sites I have tried, how much I make from them, how their earnings compare to mine, etc, etc.
So, for all inquiring minds out there, starting the first of the year I will post my online earnings! I will also do my best to keep a running total for the year. I think this will be really exciting to see how big the numbers grow. Don't get too excited, I don't make much money but I do get the occasional paypal deposit and gift cards. So let's all see how these dribbles and drabs add up!
While I am at it I would like to keep a running total of my rebates and coupon savings also. I think that number could be impressive.
I hope you all continue to follow my blog in the coming year.

Christmas Baking
I just sat down, I have been in the kitchen for the last four hours!
I baked eleven Applesauce Cakes to give away for Christmas. They are now cooling and will need to be wrapped and placed in the freezer yet tonight.
Also on my baking list for Christmas is a dozen brownie cakes, one more big batch of cookies, and then make hot cocoa mix and cappuccino mix. I really enjoy giving people homemade gifts and it really seems that they enjoy getting them also.

OMG It's a Blizzard!
We are having a blizzard here. Everything is shut down: schools, factories, stores, clinics and banks. We have a foot of snow out there already and its still snowing. And the winds are blowing so strongly it is very hard to see. But I can see some drifts on our patio that are at least 6' high!

Productive Sunday
It was a very productive day here. I should have made a to do list for today but now I guess I can make a completed list.
1. Cleaned both bathrooms.
2. Did laundry & all put away.
3. Got Christmas tree put up and decorated.
4. Went to Menards and got sandbags put in truck.
5. Checked son's homework and listened to him read a book.
6. Made Christmas whisk gifts.
7. Made chocolate face scrub and packaged for Christmas gifts.
8. Ordered stocking stuffers for kids.
9. Made breakfast, lunch and supper and did all dishes.
10. Straightened and cleaned back entryway.
11. Cleaned baby's bedroom.
12. Got kids boots, hats, gloves, and snowpants all ready for this week.
And now that I have the baby sleeping and the other two playing quietly in their rooms I think I will sit here and read the Sunday paper, double check my grocery list for tomorrow and think of anything else I need to do for the week.

No Grocery Shopping Today
Well, I tried to go to the grocery store today but when I pulled into the parking lot it was packed! And I just hate to shop in a store when it is packed, so I pulled right back out. I will just go on Monday, I am sure we can make it till then.
I did however make it to Dollar General to pick up a few cute Christmas containers, baskets, and whisks to use in making some Christmas presents.
And then I stopped at a Redbox to rent Ice Age Dawn of the Dinosaurs for our family movie night. And that will be starting in a few minutes, so I better get ready!

Tomorrow is Cyber Monday!
Don't forget that tomorrow is Cyber Monday, the online version of Black Friday. I do not shop on Black Friday because I can't stand to fight the crowds. I hate the crowds so much I don't even like going to the stores during the weekend. So, I am really looking forward to looking for deals tomorrow. I am very hopeful that I can find some things on my list.

My Trick or Treaters
The kids had fun trick or treating last night. I was disappointed that I didn't get a picture of all three kids because my oldest daughter wanted to go with friends and even wanted to get ready there. But she said she would get dressed up(tinkerbell) tonight so I could at least get a picture tonight.

Vision check-up
Today after school I took my two older children to the optometrist. I have been noticing that when my son is reading, he holds the book closer to his face then he should and squints a lot. So, I was worried about his vision. And my daughter hadn't been there since July 2008 so it was time for her to be checked also.
My daughter went in first and she came back out in about 15 minutes and the Dr said her eyes looked very healthy and she is seeing better than 20/20! Then it was time for my son to go in and I wanted to go with to tell the Dr. my concerns and see first hand how he did. The results were not horrible but, he definitely needs glasses. He was really excited to pick out glasses and the ones we decided on he said are really cool!
Then we left and on the way home he says to me, "Mom three kids in my class have glasses." I said yes. Then he says, "some people make fun of them." I asked, "do you do that?" "No," he replied. Then he said, "but they call the kids with glasses some mean names." I said, "are you worried that they will call you names?" He said, "Yes." At this point I wanted to cry for him but I knew that was not what he needed, so I continued the conversation. I said, "you know when people call you names you just need to ignore them." He said, "I know but they won't stop."
So, we really had a long talk about this subject. And I hope that when he gets his glasses next week no one ruins his excitement about them and about being able to read better.

Apples, Apples and more Apples
What do you say when someone asks you if you want some apples?
Of course, you say yes! And then they ask how many you will take?
And if you are me you say, A whole bucket full! Here is the bucket of apples that I came home to yesterday.
So, I spent most of my morning today canning apples. Thank goodness I have a Pampered Chef apple peeler, corer, and slicer. That helped alot. I canned sliced apples in very light syrup. Here are the instructions and recipe I followed. This way no matter what I want apples for: pie, crisp or sauce all I have to do is pull a jar off the shelf. And my end result was 10 jars of as many apple slices as I could squish in each one.

Homemade Granola Bars
These are always a hit at my house and my sister just asked for the recipe, so I thought I would post it on here.
Ingredients:
2 cups oats
3/4 cup wheat germ
1 c peanuts, crushed
3/4 cup sunflower kernals
2/3 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup honey
4 T butter
2 t vanilla extract
8 oz dried fruit (or choc chips or pb chips)
Put oats, germ, peanuts, kernals in baking pan and toast in oven at 400' for 10-12 minutes, stirring very frequently.
Put sugar, honey, butter, and vanilla in saucepan and bring to a simmer.
Then mix both mixtures and the fruit together well.
Line a 9X13 dish with waxed paper and pour mixture in evenly. Put another sheet of waxed paper across the top and take another 9X13 pan and push down evenly but hard on your granola mixture. Then let it sit for 30 minutes to set.
Then take it and carefully transfer to a cutting board and cut into the size of bars you want.
Make sure to keep these in an air-tight container. I usually leave half out and put half in the fridge until the first half is eaten. Since they do not contain preservatives they will stay good forever!
